TADs
TEMPORARY ANCHORAGE DEVICE (TAD)
Temporary anchorage devices or TADs are tiny anchors that can promote faster tooth movement in some orthodontic cases. TADs serve as an alternative to headgear and accelerate tooth movement while increasing efficiency.
HOW ARE TADS PLACED?
Your doctor will begin the procedure by numbing the gum tissue and jaw in the area where the TAD will be placed. The TAD is placed firmly but quickly into the jawbone. During the procedure, you may experience some slight pressure but after a day or so, you will forget your TAD is even there. You wear your TAD for the duration of your treatment, once your treatment is completed, your TAD is removed in a quick and comfortable procedure.
WHAT CAN I DO TO RELIEVE DISCOMFORT CAUSED BY MY TAD?
To relieve any discomfort from your TAD placement, we recommend taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. If the discomfort persists over the span of a few days, contact our office as soon as possible.
HOW CAN I KEEP MY TAD CLEAN?
While you have a TAD, you should brush your teeth at least three times a day. We may also prescribe an antimicrobial mouthwash for the days following your TAD placement.
If you have any remaining questions about TADs, please contact our office.
